Introduction Department

1. Reviewing and proposing long-term, mid-term and short-term policies, strategies and plans regarding preservation, restoration and revival of buildings, building complexes, contexts and cultural-historical fabrics.  

2. Reviewing, coordinating and approving plans and projects related to protection, restoration and revival of non-movable cultural heritage in cooperation with provincial units.

3. Investigating and identifying non-movable cultural heritage and proposing their registration in the National Heritage List.

4. Preparing emergency and essential plans regarding preservation, strengthening, restoration, organization and revival of non-movable cultural heritage and implementing them.

5. Preparing technical ID cards for non-movable cultural heritage and compiling the required catalogues.  

6. Studying and determining domains and proposing protective boundaries for archaeological mounds, hills and monuments.

7. Carrying out dating and preparing dating tables in archaeological sites based on studies by the Archaeology Research Center.

8. Investigating geographical and eco-environmental studies and preparing distribution maps of archaeological sites, mounds and monuments in Iran.

9. Conducting necessary investigations to determine potentials and values of cultural-historical works, historical contexts, cultural and historical properties and intangible heritage, and taking measures for registering them in the World Heritage List within the relevant regulations’ framework.

Description Of Department Works

1. Policy making and planning regarding preservation, restoration, revival, organization and management of buildings, building complexes, contexts and historical fabrics of the country and supervision over implementation of related plans and programs.

2. Developing necessary regulations and guidelines regarding protection, maintenance, restoration and revival of non-movable cultural heritage and historical objects and artifacts, and supervising proper implementation of them across the country.

3. Planning to identify valuable cultural-historical works and fabrics and proposing their registration in the National Heritage list.  

4. Assessing the value and potential of non-movable historical works, cultural-historical properties and intangible heritage and taking necessary measures for registering them in the World Heritage List.

5. Investigating and proposing protective boundaries for contexts, mounds, buildings and historical fabrics and taking required actions for their approval.

6. Reviewing emergency plans for protection, strengthening, organization, restoration and revival of non-movable historical works and supervising implementation of those plans.

7. Organizing movable historical properties and preparing their technical ID cards and required catalogues.

8. Identifying and documenting existing historical-cultural works within the geographical scope of all development plans and providing expert opinion on those plans from the perspective of country's cultural heritage. Studying and researching to expand cultural heritage sites in major historical monuments of the country and supervising activities and operations of existing sites.
